We don't need God

Stephen Hawking has a new book coming out this week called "The Grand Design". In it he says that it is entirely possible that the universe "can and will create itself from nothing". In other words, what he is saying that we don't need God in the creation of the universe. You can imagine the uproar this has caused. What say you?

  1. I say...Silliness!

    I have never seen
    1. my house organize itself
    2. much less my kids' bedroom
    3. or even my art room.
    4. nor a set of typewriter keys thrown up in the air assemble themselves together as they fall to the ground.

An entire universe with everything beautifully and intricately designed down to butterfly wings and flies' eyes would never "just happen."

To me it says, "Designer, Builder, Artist, Intelligent and Very Powerful Creator at work here!"

  2. Well said Linda! It never ceases to amaze me how easily people will swallow the concept of something coming from nothing.

  3. I am agnostic, but that doesn't mean that I trust everything scientists say. I think that more scientists should say, "I don't know." When we look back at beliefs scientists had 100 years ago or even 20 years ago, we can see a lot of misbeliefs and assumptions. Just imagine what they will learn in 1,000 years. Just like ants will never have the capacity to conceive of math, humans have limitations of what they can conceive of.

  4. So true Tonja! Scientists have to keep revising their assumptions as they learn more and more. And like you have said, there is a limit to our minds - it's funny because the Bible reminds us of that very principle "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are highter than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9
